Dr. Hayley Weston Murphy, graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. Dr. Murphy then worked full time as a small animal and equine veterinarian for 3 years after graduation, while also doing consulting work for Capron Park Zoo in North Attleboro, MA. She was accepted into a veterinary internship at Zoo New England (Boston, MA) in 1995. Became chief veterinarian there, then Director of Veterinary Services and worked for Zoo New England until December 2008. Currently, Dr. Murphy is Director of Veterinary Services at Zoo Atlanta, Atlanta, GA. She started the national gorilla cardiac database in 2000 with Dr. Ilana Kutinsky, an MD cardiologist. This then grew into the Gorilla Health Project, which received Conservation Endowment Funding from the American Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Now principal investigator for an IMLS funded grant initiative to look at great ape heart disease- the Great Ape Heart Project. Currently also the veterinary advisor to the baboon and gorilla species survival plans (SSP) and chair of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV) and the One Health sessions at the North American Veterinary Conference.
